Both sides of box drilled with holes aligned in a grid. Seal-form pin fits into the holes along the chamfered edges. Box handle and legs engraved with a bullseye and X design. Body of box carved from walrus ivory and the remaining components from marine ivory, probably also walrus. Mounted on a black wooden base.Height 4.75″. Length 7.75″. Provenance:Barbara Johnson Whaling Collection, Sotheby’s New York, December 16-17, 1983, Lot #13. One figure and two seal-form pins have been lost in the years since the sale.
